Mount Airy is home to four schools. The first, Mount Airy Elementary, was built and occupied in 1935. In the mid-1980s, the school received major renovations that are reflected in its current appearance both inside and out. The school has a natural-gas-fired heating system, school-wide air conditioning, and Internet access from the classrooms and computer lab. Another elementary school, Parr's Ridge Elementary, was built in 2005 due to serious overcrowding at Mount Airy Elementary.
