OTTB Bay Mare

Are you looking for your next project horse that will keep you honestly using your inside leg to outside rein? Wanting to find that horse who will call you on your b.s. one moment but then trot around like a western pleasure horse the next? Wishing you had a horse that forced you to use your body for your downward transitions?? Well, then you need to meet Cher!! Cher (JC Shoppingwithbill) is an 11 year old, 16.3 OTTB mare. She’s big, she’s bay and she’s beautiful! And she has many fantastic attributes! Cher has a swinging walk, a sweepy, ground covering trot and an uphill canter. She will hold herself up and step under herself to make it in the dressage arena or you could let her out long and low and she’d fit right in in the hunter ring. She does love to jump and could see her having a blast as an eventer. She could go whatever way you want! She’s extremely well behaved on the ground and takes most new experiences in stride. She’s a work-a-holic (like most OTTB mares!) and will be ready to go each time you grab her. Does well in a stall or pasture. Great for farrier, vet, clipping and loading. Gets along in the middle of the herd, with both mares and geldings. She is an absolute sweetheart on the ground, extremely well behaved and wants to just be with you! Easy to catch no matter how big her turnout. Now for the not-so-great. Cher can have some opinions in the way she is being ridden and doesn’t get along with everyone under saddle. She came to us with a very, very hard mouth that we have been working on getting lighter, but for that reason, she will need someone who has the experience to continue to teach her to NOT sit on the bit. She does listen to the seat and will both collect and transition off of it. She also came to us with some pain issues in her back after not being worked for a while and losing condition. Lots of long and low sessions, weight/muscle building, body work and saddle fitting, she is now pain free! But she does have some residual tension at times. She learned to throw fits to get her rider to quit in the past. This is not her go to anymore, but she does have it in her, so needs a rider who is able to keep her focused and moving forward when she gets upset. She has come a long way in her ability to handle her emotions and stay focused, but she can get excited! She turned out to be a bit too much for her current owner under saddle, so she is looking for her person. Someone who has the time to put in to her and continue her education towards whatever end you want. She is truly a beautiful mare with a ton of potential, with the right rider who has the time and skills for this type of project!
