Quarter Horse Gelding for Sale in Petersburg, KY
This friendly 14.2 hh 10 year-old dun’s name should be Rumpelstiltskin, but it’s Eddie. The ugliest little Quarter Horse you’ve ever seen, he was ridden hard in Texas before being shipped to Kentucky. He is now healthy, happy and looking for a new home with a kind owner who has a lot of animal skills. He’s learned to love attention, affection and treats of all kinds – apples, banana peels, melon rinds, carrots…
His white nose or “bald face” was sunburnt to oozing, bloody scabs when we met him in August 2022. A long-nose fly mask and antibiotics finally healed it, exposing a dramatic forehead scar. Luckily his eye wasn’t damaged. A hoof caught in wire when he was young left permanent disfigurement, but doesn't cause him any problems, according to our vet. Evidently, fighting to free himself, he tore part of his shoulder muscle from the bone, another old injury that doesn’t seem to bother him.
When we bought Eddie, he demonstrated a lot of good education, leg yielded, soft mouth, quiet. He was easily ridden by inexperienced riders. After gaining weight and getting healthy, he started doing a twisting buck that dislodged two very experienced riders and trainers. We need a horse capable of accepting a variety of riders, so he won’t work for us.
An easy keeper, Eddie has some arthritis from his 12-hour days as a cow horse. He’s now healthy and up to normal weight, UTD on worming, vax, dental, bodywork, T-Touch, Feldenkrais, Coggins, chiropractic. I’ve put more than $4,000 into Eddie, but his price is negotiable if you can convince me you’re the right home for him. Eddie would be a perfect pasture pal or petting zoo guy, never a bite or kick, easy going, takes treats gently, gets along in a herd, does fine on hay and pasture. If he can gain confidence that he won’t be abused again, he may return to being a great riding horse, but it will take time, patience and a lot of animal sense.
